Hi! It’s been a minute. I have started writing about 10 different things to share on here and just can’t quite get myself to finish any of them. I will (hopefully, god willing) post some actual writing soon! We’ll see! I skipped doing this last month because I didn’t quite have anything worth sharing or saying, and posting on the Internet is kind of my least favorite thing to do right now. But I finally have some things and I am happy to share them with you.
5 things I can see:
Margo’s Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe. I’m still on a reading kick, though my momentum has slowed a bit since I’ve gotten busier as the year has gone on. I read this one on a whim and loved it. It’s a silly story about a teen mom who has to find creative ways to make money. A24 and Apple TV+ are making it into a TV show starring Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman and Rico Nasty, God bless. I will be tuned in.
The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. This was GORGEOUSLY written. It took me a while to really get interested in the story because there were SO MANY damn characters, but I was hooked once I hit the halfway point and then couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I loved the writing enough to make up for the fact that I didn’t love how it ended, but would still recommend it regardless.
The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. I can’t remember ever finishing this entire series when it was in its heyday so I decided to read it in order to read Sunrise On The Reaping once I’m finished. I’m currently on Catching Fire and loving every second of it.
Hacks! HACKS IS BACK, BABY! I truly believe this is one of the best shows on television and I am so glad it’s finally back. The chemistry between Hannah Einbinder and Jean Smart is unparalleled and the writing is completely unmatched.
Yellowjackets. I devoured this entire show in the span of 2 weeks-ish. I love when women go crazy (Gone Girl, Girl, Interrupted, etc.) so everything about this was exciting to me. The relationships between the girls — both in present day and in the woods — are so dynamic and interesting.
4 things I can touch:
Am I really writing about things I like unless I include my latest Old Navy purchase? These are my favorite pants. I have them in several colors. I could wear them every day and I often do.
Twinkled T Nail Honey. Unfortunately, I have fallen victim to the TikTok Shop once again. I am on a never-ending quest to have nice nails and I keep this in my bag at all times because apparently I am someone who cares very deeply about cuticle care, like Stacy from Pitch Perfect.
My tiny little frogs. I bought a bunch of very tiny frog figurines and I keep giving them to people and leaving them places. If you see me in real life, ask me for a frog.
Facial Radiance Pads from First Aid Beauty. I feel like these were the missing step in my skincare routine. My skin feels, shockingly, more radiant, as the name suggests. I also have very sensitive skin and these have not caused me any problems yet!
3 things I can hear:
“Do It All For You” by Lucius. Beautiful, heart-wrenching song from their upcoming record.
“Yvonne” by Foxwarren. New Foxwarren!!! Andy Shauf, I would die for you!!!
David Sedaris on Armchair Expert. I love when they have him on the show. He is a remarkable storyteller and I could listen to him talk for hours on end. Dax references a story about David’s friend Dawn (originally published in The New Yorker in 2022, it’s a fantastic read) and then I got to hear him read it last night at his tour stop in Nashville. I cried.
Here is my full April playlist:
2 things I can smell:
Sacred Santal from Cyklar. I am not exaggerating when I say that this might be my favorite scent of all time. The lovely folks at Cyklar reached out to me after I wrote about my Bergamot Bond body wash in February and offered to send me some other stuff to try. I love capitalism. They sent me the Sacred Santal perfume oil and vitamin C body oil, the Crescent body lotion and body wash, and the Vanilla Verve perfume oil. Each of them is perfect and I have never smelled better in my entire life. Cyklar, ily, feel free to send me more stuff for the rest of my life, tysm.
2. Billie Eilish’s new perfume Your Turn. It is so good. I only have a travel size of it and I am dreading when I finally run out and have to buy the full size. It’s perfectly masculine with just enough of a feminine edge that I don’t feel like I’m wearing cologne when I put it on.
1 thing I can taste:
I love Starburst jelly beans. Happy easter.
Reading Margot’s got money troubles now because you said you liked it on Instagram lmao I’d been hesitant to read it because I didn’t quite care for her last book but I am really enjoying it!
